A team of three on Standard pays $249 plus two seats at $60, so $369 a month before any add-ons.<\/p>\n<h3>What do &#8220;credits&#8221; mean on Starter and Lite?<\/h3>\n<p>Starter and Lite are metered. Ahrefs&#8217; help center says <a href=\"https:\/\/help.ahrefs.com\/en\/articles\/6061657-how-users-and-credits-work\">one credit is used whenever you open a report, apply a filter or request more data<\/a>, in every tool except Site Audit and Rank Tracker. Starter is capped at 200 credits a month and you cannot buy more. On Lite, if you switch on pay-as-you-go (it is off by default), extra credits cost $50 per 500.<\/p>\n<p>In practice, 1,000 credits goes quickly if you research several competitors in one sitting, because every filter click counts. Standard and above have no per-user credit limit, which is the main reason most working teams end up on Standard.<\/p>\n<h3>Which Ahrefs features cost extra?<\/h3>\n<p>Several things sit outside the plan price, as listed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/pricing\">pricing page<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Brand Radar AI<\/strong> (full AI visibility research across Ahrefs&#8217; prompt database): from $199\/mo. Paid plans include a small allowance of tracked AI prompts (see below).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Custom prompt packages<\/strong> for tracking more of your own AI prompts: $50, $100 or $250 a month, with per-check overage.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Content Kit<\/strong> (AI Content Helper, AI Content Grader and AI Content Inventory): from $99\/mo.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Report Builder<\/strong> (50 reports, scheduling): $99\/mo.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Project Boost Pro \/ Max<\/strong> (faster always-on audits, IndexNow submission, AI checks in Site Audit): $20 or $200 per project per month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Is there a free version or a free trial of Ahrefs?<\/h3>\n<p>There is a free version but no free trial. The pricing FAQ says Ahrefs does not run discounts or free trials and does not issue refunds in general; a monthly subscriber can request one only if they haven&#8217;t used the service. The free option is <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/webmaster-tools\">Ahrefs Free<\/a> (formerly Ahrefs Webmaster Tools). It works only on sites you verify and gives you Site Audit (5,000 crawl credits a month per site), Site Explorer for your own site (up to 1,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seoeaze.com\/blog\/backlink-building-strategies-2024\/\">backlinks<\/a> and 1,000 keywords visible), and Ahrefs&#8217; Web Analytics, which doesn&#8217;t use cookies by default.<\/p>\n<p>The old $7 seven-day trial mentioned in many older reviews, including the 2018 version of this one, no longer exists. If you want to test the paid tools, Starter at $29 for one month is the cheapest way in.<\/p>\n<h2>What does Ahrefs actually do?<\/h2>\n<p>Ahrefs is an SEO suite built around its own web crawler and keyword database. These are the tools most people pay for, and what each plan unlocks.<\/p>\n<h3>Site Explorer: backlinks and competitor traffic<\/h3>\n<p>Enter any domain or URL and Site Explorer shows its backlinks, referring domains, the keywords it ranks for and its top pages. This is still Ahrefs&#8217; best-known tool. Ahrefs says its <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/big-data\">backlink index is updated with fresh data every 15 to 30 minutes<\/a> and covers 217 locations for search data. Standard adds broken backlinks, broken links, outgoing links and site structure reports that Lite doesn&#8217;t have.<\/p>\n<p>One caveat that matters when you judge a competitor: the organic traffic figures are modelled estimates. Ahrefs&#8217; own help center explains that the number is <a href=\"https:\/\/help.ahrefs.com\/ahrefs-metrics\/how-accurate-is-ahrefs-organic-traffic-metric-and-how-do-we-calculate-it\">calculated from rankings, search volumes and an estimated click-through rate<\/a>, so use it for comparisons and trends, not as a count. Your own Search Console data always wins for your site.<\/p>\n<p>If you use the backlink data for outreach, treat it as research, not a to-do list. Competitor link profiles show where links are possible; earning them is the slow part, and it is the part we handle in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seoeaze.com\/services\/complete_link_building\">monthly link building service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Keywords Explorer: keyword research<\/h3>\n<p>Keywords Explorer gives search volume, keyword difficulty, related terms, questions and the current top-ranking pages for a keyword. Lite includes the core tool; Standard adds AI keyword suggestions, keyword clustering, search intent labels and translations, per the <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/pricing\">plan comparison<\/a>. For content teams, clustering and intent are the features that save the most time, so check whether you need them before choosing Lite.<\/p>\n<h3>Site Audit: technical SEO checks<\/h3>\n<p>Site Audit crawls your site and flags technical and on-page issues: broken pages, redirect chains, missing tags, duplicate content and similar. It doesn&#8217;t use credits; it uses crawl credits (100,000 a month on Lite, 500,000 on Standard). It is a solid crawler for ongoing monitoring. What it can&#8217;t do is decide which of 400 warnings matter for your revenue, and that judgement is the real work in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seoeaze.com\/advanced_seo_audit\">SEO audit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Rank Tracker: position monitoring<\/h3>\n<p>Rank Tracker monitors your keyword positions against competitors. The limits are 750 keywords on Lite up to 5,000 on Advanced, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/pricing\">pricing page<\/a> lists the update frequency as weekly on every plan. For most strategic work weekly is enough; if you report to clients daily or work in volatile niches, it isn&#8217;t. It is available on Standard and above only, per the <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/pricing\">pricing page<\/a>. This is one of the clearer reasons content-led businesses skip Lite.<\/p>\n<h3>Brand Radar: AI search visibility<\/h3>\n<p>Brand Radar is Ahrefs&#8217; answer to AI search. It tracks how often a brand is mentioned in AI answers, and Ahrefs lists <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/brand-radar\">Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot<\/a> among the platforms it covers, plus YouTube and Reddit. Paid plans include custom prompt tracking, but the allowance is small: 5 prompts on Lite, 10 on Standard and 20 on Advanced, checked daily. Researching any brand across Ahrefs&#8217; prompt database is the separate Brand Radar AI product from $199 a month.<\/p>\n<p>Tracking is the measuring half.
